Gypsy Gold’s, “The Roadsweeper” was named in honor of his great-grandsire on one side and his great-great grandsire on the other and like his namesake, he has feathers that "sweep the road” and looks remarkably like him:

Road Sweeper UK, above, is a hallmark of the breed.  His double bred great-grandson and namesake, to the right, resembles him closely.  Gypsy Gold's Roadsweeper is a tribute both in name and conformation to his well-known ancestor.

We met this special stallion as a colt standing with his dam (a daughter of The Lob Eared Horse). Owned by one of the greatest  breeders in the world.  The colt was a standout and being held back for his breeding program  - a program that had spanned 60 years; this breeder was the "King of the Coloured Horses", Fred Walker who had maintained some of the same genetics since he was 19 years old, and he was nearly 80 then. Cindy wanted this colt and her desire never faded.

In time, and after negotiations, we purchased the colt along with his half sister, Rose.

In early 2001, The Roadsweeper arrived in the US along with Rose. It was always our goal to establish the Vanner breed in America with carefully selected breed specimens that would honor and recognize the genetics that created the Vanner breed.

To that goal, The Roadsweeper and Rose are the most genetically identified stallion and mare in North America.

The Roadsweeper is a DNA verified son of The Lion King, and is a grandson of the Lob Eared Horse. The Roadsweeper goes back to his namesake top and bottom and more importantly is a triple-bred colt of The Coal Horse. The Coal Horse is one of two foundation stallions (Sonny Mays and The Coal Horse) who inspired the Vanner breed soon after World War II.   The Roadsweeper and Gypsy Gold will continue to establish a legacy of illustrious genetics focused on the breed in the United States and Canada.
