They say that lightning does not strike the same place twice, but it
did for us. April 30th was Cindy’s birthday and
birthdays were very special to her. On
April 30, 2001 Cindy said to me, “Shampoo is going to have a baby
for my birthday today.” I really
didn’t think that would happen but it was a good excuse for us to spread a
blanket in front of Shampoo’s paddock for a wine and cheese party.
To our amazement
Shampoo Girl actually did it.
On April 30, 2001 Shampoo Girl and The Gypsy King, two of
Cindy’s favorite horses gave her the gift of their first foal together. To
honor the momentous occasion we named the beautiful filly Birthday Girl. (See

As if that wasn't fairy tale enough, on April 30,
2002 at 12:45 Am, Shampoo Girl and The Gypsy King again honored Cindy’s
birthday, this time with a birthday colt.
Not only was April 30, 2002 Cindy’s birthday, it
was also the day that an International photographer flew in to take a picture
of The Gypsy King for the first breed book in the world to recognize the Gypsy
Vanner Horse as a breed. (See Horse Breeds of the World).
We stayed up all night with the new colt dreaming
of how he would grow up to be famous. I
just knew he would be, it was so obvious that he had greatness.
Beyond being born on Cindy’s birthday and
gorgeous, he was the son of the most famous Gypsy Vanner horse stallion in the
world and is the first solid colored Vanner colt born in North America.
Since Birthday Girl was born the year before, the
obvious thing to name him was Birthday Boy but we wanted to be more creative.
Since his father is The Gypsy “King” and he is the first solid colored
baby in America, lets call him BB King I said to Cindy, she loved it.
We somehow knew that very first night that
BB King would become famous so we ran out as soon as the stores opened to buy
BB King CDs. We wanted to find songs for the new star to enter arenas with
when he became famous. We chose three songs that very special birthday and
here they are, (song one) (song two) (song three).
BB King has grown into the epitome of
the breed. He has picture-perfect Vanner conformation, an extraordinary
disposition and the aura and genetics of his famous mother and father, Shampoo
Girl and The Gypsy King. BB
King's first foals are mostly colored, have tremendous Vanner bodies and
great dispositions.
