In 1998 I wrote: As Cindy and I approached a secluded field to see the father of a filly we wanted to buy, we saw one of the most beautiful horses either of us had ever seen.

He moved across the field with a presence and elegance that is hard to describe. He reminded us of a proud lion, confident of his position in life. His feathers started at his knees and swayed with every step. The decision to buy his daughter was very easy after seeing this magnificent animal. Cindy and I learned without surprise that he was not for sale and that his name was Bill.

We watched this exceptional stallion and the babies he produced for the next two years. The consistently outstanding foals that he sired were remarkable. So remarkable in fact, that the Gypsies began to call him "The King".

From the first time Cindy and I saw Bill, we thought he was extraordinary and wanted to buy him. We accomplished what we thought would be impossible when we were allowed to buy the horse who had become The King.

In April of 1998, the horse who was now The Gypsy King, arrived in America to join Cushti Bok. They are the first two foundation sires of the Gypsy Vanner Horse in North America.

In March of 1999, The Gypsy King became the sire of the first Gypsy Vanner Horse foal, a filly, born in North America. He was bred to Bat, who is one of America's first Gypsy Vanner Horse fillies.

With Bat and The Gypsy King, the legend begins.

And begin it did:  Some horses have a destiny with greatness and the colt named Bill is one. Since his arrival in 1998 The Gypsy King has become the most famous Gypsy Vanner Horse in the world. (Below: The Gypsy King on Oster's Turbo A5 clippers)

Appearing at numerous events The Gypsy King was a special guest at the National Horse Show in Wellington Florida this year. It was there that 20,000 people rose to their feet and cheered as he entered the arena.  I said, “They love you Bill”, but the words were not necessary, Bill knew exactly what the crowd wanted and he gave it to them.  It felt like I was walking Pegasus as he floated in a balanced passage to thousands of oos, ahhs and flashing cameras.  The Gypsy King was the day we met him and is still today the most extraordinary horse I have ever known.
