OUR
EMBRYO PROGRAM FOR 2010
(Just choose the sire an d dam, and we do the rest!)
|
The embryo babies
from Gypsy Gold hold the genetics of the perfect
caravan horse envisioned by the Gypsies of Great
Britain.
As the original importers of the
Gypsy Vanner Horse we are breeders with an
unparalleled knowledge of the breed.
It is our vision to establish
and maintain the Vanner breed with it’s magic
intact. We invite you to join us on that
journey.
|
The Gypsy Gold embryo program
has been successful for years; over
one hundred happy people own a very special Gypsy Gold Vanner
because of that program.
Until now, the buyer chose from a list of
pre-implanted embryo foals - that all came with a live foal
guarantee - each costing between,$15,000.00 and $20,000.00.
The program was great
but the economic times we have experienced in 2009 dictate that
we be aggressive and creative. The new, 2010
embryo plan represents a tremendous opportunity for Vanner
lovers to purchase the horse of their dreams for
considerably less. Every foal still holds the DNA verified genetics of
some of the finest specimens the Vanner breed has to offer and
all of our embryo babies, as always, come with a “live foal guarantee”.
The program is limited so reserve the baby of your dreams
- like those in the photos you'll see throughout this page -
today!

WHY
MAKE EMBRYO BABIES?
When asked his formula
for success,
Federico
Tesio,
the
most accomplished breeder of Thoroughbred horses in
history said,
“Breed the best to the
best and hope for the best.”
At
Gypsy Gold we are breeders who embrace Federico’s
simple but profound formula.
With all the hooplah about
this breed, it may be hard to understand that
the
Gypsy Vanner Horse at
its best is very rare. Choosing
specimens genetically capable of producing the
centerpiece of the breed is an arduous task.
Only 20% of
the horses that Gypsies raise are selectively bred
and are "a "breed"; 80% of the
horses Gypsies raise are a type but not a set type (
therefore not a "breed")Those animals are a
commodity based animal bred for the restaurant
business in Belgium, Holland and France.
Although they are not the "breed", many will
fool you because they often do have some of the
breeds traits. This is because they have some of the
genetics that created the breed but not only the
genetics that created the breed.
Those Gypsy horses are called trade horses, export
horses, knacker horses or in some cases coloured
riding horses. They are quite often black and white
and have some feather. This makes it confusing to a
new buyer and especially confusing,
when the animals are young.
Those "Gypsy horses" will always have some smooth
legged genetics, often Connamara or Irish Draught.
This can change the animals temperament and will
not reliably produce foals with the set type that 70
years of focus on creating a horse with specific
traits
(the Vanner breed) will.
It was a four-year process
for Cindy and me to intimately understand and then
choose fourteen genetically known mares
with illustrious heritage and two highly proven
stallions worthy of establishing the Vanner breed in
North America. All are genetically capable of
producing the best the breed has to offer.
As examples, take a look at
the fillies available for the first time in our
embryo program. They are all embryo babies,
themselves, produced from original Gypsy Gold mares
or stallions.
On
Nov 24th,
1996
the first two Gypsy Vanner Horses, Bat and Dolly,
stepped onto American soil.
Over a decade has passed and six of the
original sixteen horses including Dolly, Cushti Bok
and The Gypsy King still live at Gypsy Gold. They
are here because at Gypsy Gold we are breeders in
pursuit of the breed’s perfect vision - not merely a
vision to buy and sell horses.
The e mbryo
program is designed to allow you to purchase
unparalleled genetics at a minimal cost.
The 2010 program affords
buyers an amazing opportunity to acquire
top-of-the-line Vanners for less than it would cost
to import one, even if the horse was free!
If ever there was a breed perfect for an
embryo transfer program, the Vanner Horse is it, and
if ever there was a perfect time to purchase a
Vanner baby from Gypsy Gold it is now.

HOW AN EMBRYO IS PRODUCED
We breed the Vanner mare of your choice (called
the 'donor' mare) with the Vanner stallion of your
choice. The next day, the mare is checked, through
palpation,
by a veterinarian. If she has ovulated on that day or the next, that is
day "zero".
On day seven, before any embryo has had a chance to attach, the mare's
uterus is flushed with a mild solution through a microscopic sieve.
What is caught by the sieve is scrutinized with a microscope in hopes of
finding your embryo. If there is an embryo, it is placed into
a recipient mare. That mare
been checked to determine that she
is in the same exact moment of estrus that the donor mare is.
In a week, the recipient mare is checked to see if she is in foal. If so, the pregnancy is
verified again in 30 days, after which she and her
precious cargo can be released to you.
Once you've purchased your embryo, you may board
the recipient mare here at Gypsy Gold (space permitting)
or you can take her home for the duration of the 11
month gestation. You are responsible for any of
her vet fees (such as vaccinations, hoof trimming and
worming - all of which we will arrange if your
mare is boarded here - as you would be with any leased
horse. If your foal is born here, you will be charged a
professional foaling fee of $700.
We will gladly finance the embryo you choose. We
ask for a non- refundable deposit of $5,000.
with the balance due in monthly payments before
your baby is born. You are given a live
foal guarantee which means that if your
recipient mare fails to produce a foal that
stands and nurses, you are given another embryo
free of charge. The guarantee stipulates that
your mare foaled according to the embryo
vet's guidelines (ie: she must be professionally
foaled).

COST
Add the stallion fee + the mare fee
+ the vet fee and this is your cost.
Stallion fees are either
$2,500. for our junior mares and stallions or $4,000. for our
more proven mares and stallions (those with more foals already
on the ground) The embryo vet fee is $4,000. so the total* cost
would be from $9,000. to $12,000. in one of the following
ways...
Example 1: Stud fee $2,500 + mare fee $2,500. + vet
fee $4.000 = $9,000
|
Example 2: Stud fee $4000 + mare fee
$2,500 + vet fee $4000= $10,500
|
|
Example 3:
Stud fee $4,000 + mare fee $4,000 + vet fee
$4,000 = $12,000
|
After the mare's 30 day pregnancy
check, space permitting, you may board the recipient
mare here at Gypsy Gold for $15.00 per day. If
your embryo is paid for in full, you can take the
recipient mare home, foal her out and return her after
your foal is weaned.
Credit card service is available and
we will gladly finance the embryo you choose with a
non-refundable deposit of $5,000. The balance is due, in
monthly payments, before your baby is born.
* Additional costs not
included in these prices are board (if desired), feed, worming,
shots and incidental vet fees. You are responsible for the
health and well being of the recipient mare as if she were your
own.

Because Gypsy Gold is the home
of America’s first Gypsy Vanner Horses, many of our fillies and
junior stallions have generations of DNA verified heritage from
some of the most dynamic specimens of the breed. These fillies
are the genetic promise of a breed fulfilled and then some. At
Gypsy Gold we breed the best to the best and hope for the best.
These fillies are living proof that we often get what we hope
for.

THE RECIPIENT MARES
Recipient
mares can be of any breed, as they do not have any blood
relationship to the embryo foal they carry. There is absolutely no
genetic interaction between the embryo foal and the recipient mare;
the baby is 100% genetically conceived by it’s Vanner parents.
The recipient mare is supplied for you. The cost of her lease through the foal's weaning is included in the price of the embryo. You can supply your own recipient mare, but since that mare would
have to be artificially brought to match the donor mare's estrus
schedule, there isn't much difference in the price of the transfer.
The recipient mares used at Gypsy Gold are screened for health,
reproductive soundness and are temperament tested. Many were purchased
from auctions that supply slaughterhouses. In this way, embryo transfer
programs have saved the lives of hundred of good mares.

These beautiful recipient mares are now living the
good life at Gypsy Gold and will soon be mothering purebred Gypsy Vanner
babies!

THE RISK
Generally
speaking, the worst you can get is what you paid for...
Here's what we mean by
that: It is highly unlikely that any foal with Gypsy
Gold breeding will sell for less than $15,000. and most are considerably
more (the average selling price of a Gypsy King daughter is $43,750.00).
Your Gypsy Gold embryo foal is guaranteed live.
The sex and/or color of the foal is not guaranteed, but sex and color
are not usually guaranteed in any breeding program. At Gypsy Gold,
we want to deliver the horse of your dreams and will be happy to help you sell
or trade your new foal. The genetics make that easy, no matter the color or
sex. Remember, our embryo program is designed to allow you to purchase unparalleled genetics at a minimal cost.
